Overnight at Camp Little Cloud

Our first grade girl scout troop had their first over-night at Camp Little Cloud.  The girls all had a GREAT TIME....even though Mother Nature didn't cooperate!  It was cold....and we had snow flurries at times....but that didn't stop the girls from having a great time!  We went on a hike, had our last journey meeting, made lots of crafts, roasted smores, etc.  It was a great time for the first graders!!!  They are already looking forward to going back to Camp Little Cloud!
 Hiking....with boots and winter coats!

At Sunshine (one of the tent areas)....if you look closely, you can see snow flurries!

Children's Author Visits Xavier

The girls and I were lucky to see a children's author that visited Xavier today.  B.J. Schwartz and his Alaskan Malamute, Max, were a joy to listen to and watch.  Both girls really enjoyed hearing a couple of his stories, and petting Max too!  He has a series of books called "The Adventures of Max & I".  He has six books out right now geared toward kids 3-9.  All the preschoolers through third grade enjoyed his time at school today.  All of his stories rhyme....which Kelly particularly loves.  We bought Molly the first book in the series and Kelly the second book....and the author (and Max) autographed their books!  Both girls also got a picture of Max!  He is a 125 pound dog that is only 15 months old.  He is supposed to grow more yet and add around 30-50 more pounds.  This is B.J.'s second Max.....as his first dog Max passed away last year.

Out of dress code

Kelly loves everything about fashion, glamour, sparkle, and dressing up!
**I'm not sure how I got a daughter like this......as I am (and always was) a casual (tom-boy as a kid) type person**
Once a month, Xavier has an out of dress code day.  As long as you give a donation towards the monthly charity....you can go to school out of uniform.  Kelly LOVES these days and looks forward to them.....and picks out what she is going to wear....days...and sometimes a week in advance!
Her plan, this month, was spoiled with this crazy April weather we are having!  So...she added a sweater and wore boots with her fancy dress she bought with her OWN gift card from Christmas.  She has been dying to wear this dress she picked out (on her own) from Justice!
I'm not sure where she got her fashion sense....but she is pretty darn adorable!

Kelly starting DASH

Kelly had her first official swim practice tonight!  CRAZY!  It is SO incredibly different to be on the parent side of swimming.  I understand being a swimmer as I swam competitively for 17 years and I understand the coaching side as this will be my 15th year as the head coach at Wahlert)......add those two together and that is 32 years!  Now....taking my daughter to swim practice and sitting in the bleachers....that is just plain WEIRD!  Kelly has ALWAYS loved the water.  She passed her level of swim lessons last month and she could either move to the last level or try DASH (Dubuque Area Swimming Hurricanes - the club swim team that I used to swim on). She was all about trying the swim team as she wants to be like "Mommy's swimmers!"  DASH has a two week (no obligation) free trial for anyone interested......so we thought we would give it a try.  Her age group practices twice a week, for an hour.  Tonight was her first practice and she loved everything about the 45 minutes in the water......the only thing she didn't like was the stretching/dry-land before they got in the water.  I told her that was always a part of it and she said it was ok then.  We'll see how she feels at the end of the free trial.  I think Mom is more hesitant than Kelly on signing up for DASH.....as I UNDERSTAND the world of competitive swimming!

Girls Scouts....

Kelly's first grade Daisy girl scout troop has been working this year on completing the "3 Cheers for Animals" Journey.  To complete the journey they have to teach younger non-girl scouts about what they have learned.  All the girls did a GREAT JOB!  We had 7 younger sisters between the ages of 3-5 years old attend our meeting.  We have one meeting left and they earn the Animal journey award for the front of their tunics.
Stephanie, Kelly, Jessica, and Cydney preparing to talk about their designated animal - the polar bear!
The younger girls listened, learned, and had fun!
Animal Yoga - Kelly teaching Molly the butterfly
Kelly helping Molly do the crane for animal yoga
Kelly was a robin here......some girls talked about the wing spans of 5 different birds
The younger girls got to practice the 5 different birds with streamers! :)  Molly loved it!
Kelly & Kaitlyn teaching Molly the girl scout promise.
(Molly struggled with holding up just 3 fingers)

Silly Sisters!
(Look at my two girls!!!!!  They are CRAZY!)
